POLICY SEMINAR 3 IN GREECE

Policy Seminar 3: “The results of the pilot implementation of LOOP – The impact of a Teachers’ Induction Programme and a Mentors’ Capacity Programme on the teaching profession” Institute of Educational Policy, Greece

With more than 400 attendees (directors of education, teacher advisors, and school headmasters) from the region of Attica, the Institute of Educational Policy held the Policy Seminar 3 entitled “The results of the pilot implementation of LOOP – The impact of a Teachers’ Induction Programme and a Mentors’ Capacity Programme on the teaching profession”, on 16 February 2024.

In the Policy Seminar, in the form of a webinar, actively participated Mr. Yannis Katsaros, General Secretary of Primary, Secondary and Special Education of the Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports, Mr. Spyros Doukakis, President of the Institute of Educational Policy, and Mr. Konstantinos Dimopoulos, Professor at the Department of Social and Educational Policy in the University of Peloponnese. Also, the headmaster and a mentor of the 39th Primary School of Athens shared their experiences from their participation in the pilot study of the project.

The Policy Seminar 3aimed to disseminate the results of the project, to highlight the challenges encountered during the pilot implementation of the LOOP project and to provide recommendations for decision making in the design of professional development programmes for new teachers and mentors.

The large number of participants (400 participants) highlights the strong interest of the Greek educational community in the main objective of the LOOP project, namely the professional empowerment of new teachers through systematic support based on the institution of the Mentor.

The Institute of Educational Policy continue to strengthen actions and approaches identified as priority policies by the Greek Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports in education.
